OM3 metric: Ontology declares detailed metadata

This metric assesses whether an ontology/vocabulary includes a comprehensive set of metadata elements that provide in-depth information for improved usability and provenance tracking.

What is being measured?

The presence in the ontology metadata of the following detailed fields:

  • DOI (Digital Object Identifier)
  • Publisher
  • Logo
  • Status
  • Source
  • Issued Date

Additionally, optional fields are checked but not penalized if absent:

  • Previous Version
  • Backward Compatibility
  • Modified Date

Why should we measure it?

Detailed metadata enhances the ontology’s traceability and understandability, aligning with FAIR principles.

What must be provided for the measurement?

An ontology URI or file.

What are considered valid results?

The ontology should include all mandatory fields. Optional fields like previous version, backward compatibility, and modified date are recommended.
